Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and state legislators learned about many of Iowa State’s innovations that benefit Iowans and Iowa communities at the Iowa State Day at the Capitol event on Mar. 5 in Des Moines. Among the College of Health and Human Sciences efforts promoted at the event were a longitudinal study that combines retina scans and stress experienced by people to determine how they relate to — and predict — development of Alzheimer’s disease; a team that is helping small Iowa communities use big data to tackle pressing issues; a program in which students help small businesses improve their bottom lines; and a cost-saving, eco-friendly tech business that improves water quality.
