I was responsible for...
I worked in a full-service resort kitchen in the middle of the mountains this summer. My responsibilities included preparing both hot and cold food for large-scale banquets, executing proper food plating and presentation, and serving at interactive buffet stations for large conferences.
I think the best part of my internship experience was looking back on my time in Aspen and seeing all the ways I had grown over the summer: in my knife skills, of course, my confidence, my organization skills, my ability to work well under pressure, and many other ways I never anticipated.
My biggest takeaway from this summer is that there are so many unique, exciting opportunities in the culinary world. I was able to meet and connect with some amazing people with awesome stories to tell. It really inspired me to dream bigger and chase after some of those experiences for myself.
Advice for others...
I kind of accepted this opportunity on a whim. At the beginning of this summer, the internship was very intimidating and made me question whether I was really cut out for this. I stuck with it for the rest of the summer and I am SO glad that I did. I think everyone should do something in their life that scares the heck out of them, but in a really good way. What better time for that than college?
