Gretchen Henningsen intends to earn her master's degree and work as a registered dietitian. When she isn't studying, she enjoys kayaking, riding her bike, and spending time with family and friends.
Gretchen represents club through Student Council
After joining the Student Dietetic Association, Gretchen was nominated to serve as the organization’s College of Human Sciences Council representative. Now, she serves as the purchasing officer and Student Sensations chair for the council.
As the purchasing officer, she helps allocate the student activities budget to different CHS clubs. As a Student Sensations chair, she’s in charge of planning events, coordinating schedules, and helping to choose the CHS Student Sensations who represent the college all-year round.
Gretchen said each position interests her for different reasons, but they both have helped her meet people and get connected on campus.
“I knew I could help a lot of clubs as the purchasing officer,” she said. “And I felt Student Sensations was a fun way to show the entire school what our students in CHS are doing.”
She hopes to continue getting involved in the council either by furthering her current executive positions or by trying something new. Either way, she believes her experiences will help her in her future career as dietitian.
“Student council involves a lot of planning and collaboration,” she said. “We work together regardless our positions. In dietetics you’re constantly bouncing ideas off other professionals, so I do feel it’s applicable – not only in dietetics but in all jobs.”
Gretchen feels her time on the council positively benefited her college experience. And she hopes other students decide to get involved. And if you are interested, she encourages you to consider where you best fit in the organization.
“Apply for a position, but have a good idea of what your strengths are,” she said. “Every position is different, and it’s important to know which you want, and know what aligns with your interests.
