Food science and human nutrition (FSHN) Ambassadors represent the department and serve as hosts for activities and campus visitors. Ambassadors gain leadership skills, develop networks with alumni and other professionals and learn about departmental organization.
Students serving in this position help plan and represent the FSHN student body at student welcome events, Homecoming, Alumni Award banquet, External Advisory Committee meetings, and FSHN Days, as well as ad hoc events such as hosting of foreign visitors, speakers, or industry representatives. Ambassadors also meet regularly with the department chair to discuss student related topics and learn about department operations.
Applications for 20 FSHN Student Ambassadors are accepted in April and you will serve from August through May. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. You must be enrolled at Iowa State during the term of office.
- Term is August through May
- Participate in a minimum of four regularly scheduled departmental activities per year
- Meet with department chair in September, November, February, and April
- Assist with social media/communication connections for the department
