The Master of Professional Practice (MPP) in Dietetics at Iowa State University is pleased to announce the newest addition to the program’s faculty and staff. Erin Hinderaker joined the faculty in spring of 2022 and will serve as a clinical assistant professor for the program.

Hinderaker’s appointment marks a return to her alma mater, where she spent much of her academic career, receiving both her Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, and her master’s degree in Nutritional Science. In her new position, Hinderaker will primarily teach students in the MPP program, assist in advancing the program, and serve as a mentor to graduate students as they complete their supervised practice.

“We are delighted to have Erin join the MPP team,” said MPP Program Director Mridul Datta. “Her knowledge of program development, leadership skills, community outreach, prior teaching, and student mentoring experiences will be huge assets not only to the students in the MPP but also to our new integrated program to train competent future Registered Dietitian Nutritionists across the US.”

Hinderaker comes to her new role with 13 years of clinical, administrative, and educational experience in the fields of nutritional science and dietetics. Most recently, she was the Director of Sports Nutrition for Olympic Sports at Iowa State University where she designed, implemented, and managed nutritional and health needs for 12 collegiate sports. She supported athletes with individualized care based on nutritional status including clinical diagnoses, lab tests, nutrient deficiencies, disordered eating, and general sports nutrition.

“I am honored to have come full circle and to be teaching with some of the faculty who supported me and molded my education for a successful career in Dietetics,” Hinderaker said.

Hinderaker has been an instructor since 2014, when she was a clinical dietitian and instructor for Des Moines University, and later was an adjunct instructor for Simpson College from 2015-2019. She is an active member in several associations, including: the Dietitian’s Association, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition (SCAN) group.
