FSHN Alumni Impact Awards

The Iowa State University Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) is accepting nominations for the 13th annual FSHN Alumni Impact Award. Up to three FSHN alumni are chosen to receive the award each year, based on the impacts they have made in their profession or community. To be eligible, candidates should be five to 10 years post-degree from the FSHN Department. Awards will be available for both alumni and non-alumni of the FSHN department.

Emerging Leader Alumni Award: The Emerging Leader Alumni Award serves to recognize alumni of Iowa State University’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) who earned their FSHN degree within the past 10 years. Strong candidates for this award will have made a mark in their professional field early on in their careers, showing great leadership qualities and the potential to continue making significant impacts.

Nominees will be evaluated based upon their efforts/accomplishments in the following areas:

  • 40% – Distinction in their professional field
  • 20% – Service to ISU’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition
  • 40% – Community engagement

Distinguished Alumni Award: The Distinguished Alumni Award serves to honor alumni of Iowa State University’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition who have made outstanding contributions in the food science and/or human nutrition fields over the course of their careers. Eligible nominees must have earned their FSHN degree more than 10 years ago.

Nominees will be evaluated based upon their efforts/accomplishments in the following areas:

  • 80% – Distinction in their professional field
  • 10% – Service to ISU’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition
  • 10% – Community engagement

Friend of FSHN Award: The Friend of FSHN Award is open to any individual or organization who has made an impact on Iowa State University’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition. Such impacts may include, but are not limited to:

Contributing toward current FSHN students’ success (i.e. graduate student scholarships or assistantships, travel scholarships, leading/organizing student workshops, offering internships to FSHN students, speaking to FSHN classes about current trends in the industry, providing tours of facilities, etc.)
Contributing toward current FSHN faculty success (i.e. Endowed Chair, research and teaching funds, facilities, equipment, etc.)

Candidates of this award may or may not be alumni of the FSHN department.

Nominees will be evaluated based upon their efforts/accomplishments in the following areas:

  • 20% – Distinction in their professional field
  • 60% – Service to ISU’s Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition
  • 20% – Community engagement

Nomination Process

To put forward a nomination for any of the three awards listed above, please submit the following:

  • Nomination form
  • Nominee’s curriculum vitae/resume
  • Supporting documents (1 page per submitted document) – these could be letters from colleagues, media articles written about the nominee’s success/honors, etc.
  • 100 word summary about nominee that will be read at the award ceremony in the event the nominee is selected for this award

Deadline

Selected award winners are invited back to campus during Homecoming (October 29 — November 4, 2023) to be honored during an awards banquet.
